To all Chicago area builders (visitors welcome too!) - Let's talk shop! We will be meeting on February 17, 2007 (note the date change from January 28th). Right now, we are planning to meet at my home in Elmhurst. Please let know if you will be able to attend.

Ray, would you Chicago area luthiers like a dedicated sub forum at the OLF? Much like the MGL has? Let me know!

You guys might also want to PM Mike Tobey, i think he'd be really pleased, it has been a while since i've seen him post though.

Thanks, Serge, I just PM'd Mike and Doug Mills, too. Any others?

Hey Guys, do you allow Wisconsin-ites in the Chicago area clan?
I might be able to make the trip.
Only problem is that it's the same weekend as the Birkibiner (nordic ski race) but the way things are looking, there won't be snow anyway so I'll likely be able to attend (if invited).

Paul, you are more than welcome. Love to meet you. And yes, this warm weather is not so welcome to those x-country fanatics who do the Birkie.

I'm going to try and make it. Unfortunately I won't know for sure until I see what my weekend workload is going to be which I won't know until right before the meeting.

Hey JJ, what route do you take up to Chicago to avoid all the road construction on I-80 around Gary?

John

Good to know you might attend John. The path around Gary is fairly clear these days and a Saturday trip should be even better. It always depends on the weather at this time of the year.

Any interest in meeting in Merrillville at I-65 and Rt. 30 to carpool? If you're interested, PM me and we can work out the details.

Paul...as far as I'm concerned, and as an outsider as well, you're invited! Hope to see you there.JJ Donohue39094.5936689815

That's a great idea JJ. I'll PM you when the time gets closer to work out details. I should know at least a few days ahead of time if I'll be able to go. Too bad it's not summer, isn't Medinah a public course?

No...Medinah is private. You may be thinking of Cog Hill where they play the Western Open...that's public and a great course!

Does anybody know if Frankie will be there? I haven't seen him around here for a while. I hope he can make it as well.

JJ: I will give him a call this afternoon. Thanks for the reminder. Also, a friend of mine with about 8 instruments finished will be there. His name is Brett Sutton, and he has done a lot of doctoral work and a book in the folklore area, with some emphasis on music. Should be fun!

Does anyone want to invite some players too?

Post subject:

I'm guessing most of us builders started out as players, no?

BTW, is there an agenda or specific times to meet? I know this is informal but it may help me manipulate my work schedule a bit.

Cheers!

John, I actually started building guitars so I would have one to learn how to play - well, a half a dozen guitars later, I still need to learn how to play! i was just asking as I know my kids guitar teacher would love to come.

As for when to meet - I'll put out a suggestion and all can respond - how about in the early afternoon say 1:00 - 2:00pm time frame. Meet for a few hours, have an early snack/dinner thing and then be on our way. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I'm a better player than a builder, but I'd love to attend.

Live in the far NW suburbs so reasonably close.
